Shangri La Botanical Gardens

 Shangri La #1

Shangri La Botanical Gardens was the brainchild of Mr Stark who took the concept of Shangri La from the book Lost Horizon published in 1933 and transformed it into a reality of beautiful gardens and a place of peace and tranquility.  This lovely place is located at 2111 West Park Avenue in Orange, TX.

Shangri La #2

This beautiful glass canopy with vines/plants growing on it is flanked on either side with green houses you can tour.  They had orchids, mums and other plants.

shangri La #3

I just love different shades of purple in these flowers that were inside one of the green houses.

Shangri La #5

Who says pond scum can't be pretty?

Shangri La #6

This is a little blurry, but I think you get the general idea how beautiful this bearded iris is.

They were also having a scare crow decorating contest.  This green sequined gown really caught my eye.  It was my second favorite scare crow.

Shangri La #7

The Vincent van Scare Crow will probably win, they even painted their own "Starry Night" on a real canvas.

Shangri La #7

There was lots of seating under this huge roof supported by large logs.

What a great place.  For more information go to:

Only about two hours from Houston, it makes a great get away for a Saturday.
