White Christmas in West Texas 2009

Courtyard Marriott #1

Christmas trip 2009.  First stop Courtyard by Marriott in Abilene, Texas.

Thick snow was on the car the next morning, December 24, 2009.

cars off the road

This was the first car I saw run off the road.  It was absolutely trecherous out there.  It was snowing and there was snow being blown from the fields onto the road.

Trucks were not having any better luck on the snow.  Even saw a wrecker that skidded off the highway into the snow.

Here is another person stuck.  It is a very white christmas here!

These pictures were taken between Abilene, Texas and Clovis, New Mexico.

Hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Liz, this is not the pictures I think of when Texas comes in my mind. This reminds me more of New England. Wow a White Chirstmas....:)))

I've got caught out in those W. Texas storms before, extremely treacherous, stressful and scary...glad you made it safely!

You were pretty brave to be wandering around out in the West Texas snowstorms. Heck, it's bad enough out there when the weather is good! LOL

Happy New Year!

Hi Everybody, hope you had a wonderful holiday season and your 2010 is off to a great start.

Russel, we were on a trek to the Grand Canyon and other National Parks, so we just went 15 Mph or so on one stretch of road.  Took us 2 hours on one highway that would have normally taken 30 minutes.
