Mercer Arboretum & Botanic Gardens -- May 2010

water lily

Once every three or four months I go to Mercer Arboretum they always have something blooming every month of the year.

This water lily is one of the first things you see after you enter the Arboretum grounds.

cute orange flower

This double layered orange flower really caught my eye.

pink flower

I wish I could grow beautiful deep pink flowers like this.  What a beauty!

turtles at pond

One of the improvements at the Arboretum is the lake has been cleaned out, and a new Chinese tea house with benches has been constructed.  They also added a peninsula that extends into the middle of the lake.  The tutles love the new cement logs which are great for turtle sun bathing.

This is one of the many paths in the Arboretum.  Several spots along the way have benches where you can take a break.

Mercer Arboretum -- star gazers

Gorgeous Star Gazers.  One of my favorite flowers.

Another improvement to the Arboretum is the water wall.  Can you see the water streaming down in between the columns?

Across Aldine Westfield is a park where you can picnic or do more hiking.  Click for more information, directions or hours: Mercer Aboretum.

Hey, Liz - I just finished doing a slide show on the water liles here in Balboa Park. I can never get enough of arboretumsbotanical gardens, zoos, and aquariums.

What a beautiful , peaceful setting.  One of the most relaxing atmospheres is with water running.  Nice photos.

Liz, We wer talking about Mercer today at dinner!  Our son lives over by there and has not been except on the other side where he can walk his dog.  I told him how wonderful it was and that it was FREE! For the longest time I thought there was a charge.

Hey Jim, I will look forward to seeing the slideshow on Balboa Park.

Judy, thanks for your kind words about my photos, I'm still pretty new at taking pictures.

Hey Marchel, I never thought to mention that the Arboretum was free.  It is actually funded by our tax dollars, so people should really take advantage of it.
