Pictures from Hawaii -- May 2011. My brother Bob is in Hawaii on vacation, and I asked him to send me some pictures with descriptions. He vacations there about avery three years or so.
This was from the B&B that my brother stays at every time he vacations in Hawaii. The rate is $85 per night. West Maui is in the distance.
Sunrise at Haleakala Maui. The sun was peeking out behind some clouds. An awe inspiring view. My oldest sister and I went to Haleakala in June of 2000. It took a long time to drive to the top. People were riding bicycles down the volcano on the same road that people were driving on -- it is kind of dangerous, but very well worth it at the top. Don't miss this volcano.
I believe this is Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa from the air. There are telescope observatories on the mountains. Mauna Kea is known as the worlds best observing site.
This was taken right before landing in Hilo, it is a Japanese Garden. It is currently raining at the Volcano -- normal for this area, which is a rain forest. Tomorrow my brother will hike Kilauea Iki -- a beautiful walk across a volcanic crater floor. It last erupted in 1959.
This is the plane he took to get to Hilo on the Big Island. Haleakala is in the background. Moments before a sugar cane fire was started that sent up a cloud thousands of feet in the air. The farmers do that on purpose to harvest the sugar cane.
